Intimate comfort treatment in Beaulieu-sur-Mer
Dr Arnold DEKA
We are obsessed with our abdominal muscles and buttocks for aesthetic reasons, but all too often we neglect our perineum.
And yet, even if it’s not visible, it plays a fundamental role in everyday life, and it’s vital to keep it as muscular as any other muscle in the body, in order to ensure its physiological function and prevent the symptoms associated with its failure.

What is the perineum?
Also known as the pelvic floor, it is a “muscular hammock” stretched between the pubis at the front and the coccyx at the back. It supports the area of the pelvis containing the genitals, bladder, rectum and viscera. As well as supporting the organs, the perineum plays a crucial role in continence and sexual wellbeing.
Throughout their lives, women are exposed to many situations that can damage the state of their perineum, such as :
- pregnancy and childbirth
- hormonal changes at the menopause
- chronic constipation
- practising certain high-impact sports and lifting loads on a daily basis
- age-related ageing of muscle tissue

The perineum is very much in demand during pregnancy and particularly during childbirth. This is also the time when women become aware of their perineum for the first time.
For nine months, the muscles of the perineum have to bear the weight of the baby and the intense stresses of a vaginal delivery.
Even after a caesarean section, it is necessary to strengthen the perineum because the weight of the baby has had an impact on the pelvic floor muscles.
When the perineum is too distended, very debilitating symptoms such as bladder weakness or even urinary incontinence, pelvic pain with a feeling of heaviness, or a deterioration in sexual well-being can occur.
At a very advanced stage of muscular relaxation, some women may suffer from prolapse.
A toned perineum is also important for sexual fulfilment. Orgasms are more intense and more frequent, vaginal lubrication is increased and vaginal contractions provide better sensations for both partners.

Men's perineal muscles
Men also need to maintain their perineal muscles in order to retain their supportive function. Interventions on the prostate or high-impact sports such as cycling, running or cross-fit can cause injury and lead to pelvic-perineal symptoms.
Principle of treatment
Dr Arnold is a medical device used to strengthen the pelvic muscles in the prevention or treatment of urinary or faecal symptoms.
The device produces an electromagnetic field leading to an intense, global and supra-maximal contraction of the perineal muscles.
It is an innovative device for restoring the pelvic floor.
Benefits
Firstly, it is a non-invasive treatment that requires no internal introduction of a probe into the vaginal or anal canal for muscle stimulation, thus eliminating any potential post-operative risk.
The patient sits comfortably in the ergonomic therapy chair, fully clothed, simply taking care to remove any jewellery, telephone or other metal objects.
The electromagnetic field delivered by the chair triggers intense, deep contractions of all the pelvic muscles. This phenomenon generates high-intensity contractions that cannot be reproduced by voluntary muscular action (like Kegel exercises). The structure of the muscle is thus modified, with a higher number of muscle fibres. Muscular control of the pelvic floor is then restored.
